Artist Simon Fenoulet was selected as the 2016 ‘Out of the box’ artist in resident at the Glamorgan Archives. The residency aimed to explore the Archives’ vast collections and utilitarian conservation machinery, which included a ‘box making machine’, ‘fog machine’ and ‘light wall’. The residency was hosted by the Archives, supported by Warp and Made in Roath and facilitated by Art Shell. During his eight week residency Simon carefully searched through the Archives’ diverse collection of material. The Out of the Box residency offered people new ways of looking at the Archives and Simon used ‘the senses’ as a starting point to connect people with the past. The residency formed a conversation between the artist, the Archives and it’s resources, the Archives staff, the public and other artists.
